The course aims to integrate sustainability aspects into the design of mechanical components and equipment. Structurally, various considerations related to sustainability will be explored, with the overall goal of reducing the environmental impact of products. Different ways in which structural analysis can contribute to this objective will be examined, for example, by using less material to achieve the same performance. The focus will be on advanced design approaches, which include material selection and the use of simulations (e.g., symbolic environment, finite element analysis) for structural analysis and optimization. Upon completion of the course, students will acquire the necessary skills to design and improve industrial products using lightweighting concepts and alternative materials with a reduced environmental impact.
