The manufacturing industry of the future must be increasingly competitive, and the product development must be designed for each specific function with attention to sustainability, environment, energy, mobility and health in a general context mainly driven by digitalization. Data analysis and computer aided design can be used to derive ad hoc solutions in materials science and technologies as well as to explain final performances and which factors directly affected on it to promote optimization.
The aim of the course is to enrich the students’ Knowledge and understanding about high performing materials and manufacturing processes through the employment of rational design and modelling methods. These mathematical-based approaches are capable to optimize materials’ final properties and process’ parameters correlated to their design, production and recycle. Students will improve their ability to apply knowledge and understanding through theoretical and laboratory activities by using software tools. The course provides students autonomy of judgment by critically evaluate different materials and solutions for improve the technology and manufacturing. The group work required in the project activity of the course allows the students to improve their communication skills and mutual interaction. Moreover, the course provides learning skills for application of the main class of materials, data analysis and simulation in innovative digital manufacturing.
